Abstract
Three groups of rats(12 rats in each group)-Sample A, Sample B and the Control-were used in this experiment to study about the effects of ¡°Onshinhwan¡± on the secretion of sex hormones and the antifatigue. ¡°Onshinhwan¡± was administered in the way to the rats of Sample A 835.2§· per 200g of rat¡¯s weight every day for 35 days; to the rats of Sample B the doubled amount 1670.4§·, and the Control group were just fed with the equal amount of saline solution. These groups were tested for the levels of sex hormones such as testosterone, esradiol, FSH, LH three on the 7th, 14th, and 35th day. Additionally, they were examined in swimming time through the compulsory swimming method.
The results from the experiment are as follows:
1. The content of testosterone in the serum showed a significant increase in Sample A in comparison to the Control; there was an increase in Sample B as well but not so remarkable. The increase was getting evident as the days elapsed, however, the increase in Sample A was quite notable rather than Sample B which was give doubled amount of ¡°Onshinhwan¡±.
2. The content of estradiol in the serum marked a significant increase in both Sample A and Sample B as to the Control. Also, the increase was getting obvious as the experiment days passed, and the increase in Sample A was seen more significantly than Sample B as it was the case in testosterone.
3. The content of FSH & LH in the serum proved no significant difference neither Sample A nor B in the comparison with the Control.
4. The swimming time was detected to get prolonged in both Sample A and B than in the Control, and it was especially conspicuous in Sample A.
With these results, ¡°Onshinhwan¡± is observed to cause a significant effect on the secretion of testosterone and estradiol; thus, the administration of the medicine is considered to have an improving effect on sexual functional disorder caused by the hinderance of related hormone secretion. However, ¡°Onshinhwan¡± is not yet revealed in the effects on FSH & LH which leaves more rooms for a study on this medicine to be followed.
